Where will you be working?

With 5,100 m² of climbing and bouldering facilities, an official IFSC speed wall, advanced training zones, an athlete's residence, professional hospitality and Experience Center, the National Climbing Center (NCC) in Nieuwegein will be the new heart of climbing in the Netherlands. From top athletes to families, from boulderers to lead climbers, everyone is welcome and can climb at this center at their own discipline and level. What is your job?

For our National Climbing Center in Nieuwegein, we are looking for a Gym Manager Sport & Safety with strong leadership and organizational qualities, an eye for detail and someone who feels and promotes our core values and mission. As Gym Manager Sport & Safety, you, together with the Hospitality & Facilities Coordinator and the Training & Youth Coordinator, are the face of the National Climbing Center. You are responsible for staff planning, relationship management with partners, a high-quality range of courses and activities and ensuring safety within the location. You lead the instructor team, supervise groups and courses yourself and are the point of contact for customers, employees and apprenticeships.

In addition, you are part of the national team of Gym Managers. Together, you develop policies and guidelines so that there is consistent and recognisable quality at all our locations.

Your most important responsibilities

  • Staff: setting up and monitoring efficient staff planning; recruiting, coaching and supervising instructors and apprenticeships; conducting performance reviews; organizing training and refresher courses.
  • Activities & courses: organizing and carrying out group activities and courses (including Indoor Toprope, Indoor Voorklim); self-supervising clinics; supervising students towards NKBV licenses; organizing local and national events.
  • Safety & quality: supervising compliance with safety procedures and VMS; managing and maintaining climbing and activity equipment in accordance with TÜV guidelines; identifying and monitoring risks; ensuring a safe and educational environment.
  • National policy & development: contributing to national developments in climbing with a focus on activities and courses, and translating these into a customer-oriented offer.
  • Relationship management & community: maintaining contacts with customers and partners; organizing community-strengthening activities; promoting offerings via social media, among other things.
  • Self-managing team: within the regional self-managing team, ultimately responsible, and point of contact for the management.

This is what you take with you

  • At least 3 years of relevant work experience, preferably in the sports industry in a leadership role.
  • Experience with planning, organizing and managing teams.
  • Affinity with and experience in climbing and mountaineering (even active indoor and outdoor climber).
  • In possession of or willing to obtain: NKBV framework qualifications (Practical Counselor, KVB-IV, SKI-IT and SKI-IV) and BHV.
  • Experience or proven affinity with safety (e.g. VMS, risk management, material management or safety protocols).
  • Experience with social media is an advantage.
