The 5 disciplines of climbing

Bouldering

Short routes without ropes, close to the ground. Technical, explosive and surprisingly intense. Quick to learn hard to master!

Toprope

Climbing with the rope pre-anchored at the top of the wall. Ideal for training technique and endurance. Get your toprope certificate.

Autobelay

Climb without a belayer. Clip in and the system catches you safely. Perfect for a quick, independent climbing session or warm-up.

Speed climbing

It’s all about speed. One fixed route, race to the top. Explosive, competitive and above all great fun.

Lead climbing

Instead of a top anchor, you clip in every few metres as you climb. This is also your first step towards outdoor rock climbing.

FAQs

Bouldering takes place on lower walls, usually around 4–5 metres high, without ropes or a climbing certificate. It’s accessible, explosive and demands strength and technique.

Rope climbing takes you much higher, sometimes up to 18 metres. Routes are longer and more technical, and once you’re high on the wall you really get into the flow. To do this, you’ll first need a climbing certificate (KVB-IT).

Yes, you can — just not on your own yet.

As a beginner, you start with an introductory climbing lesson. An instructor will teach you the basics so you can climb safely and with confidence. Enjoy it? Then you can continue with the basic course and eventually climb independently (without an instructor) when you own a climbing certificate.

Curious? Book an introductory lesson through our website.

Children can climb at Climbing Network from the age of 7, always under supervision. This can be through introductory lessons, workshops or our Climbing Club.

Are you 14 or older and do you and your climbing partner have a climbing certificate? Then you’re allowed to climb independently at our gyms.

Climbing Network follows the guidelines of the Stichting Veiligheid Klimsport (SVK) and the Dutch Climbing and Mountaineering Association (NKBV). All our instructors and trainers complete official NKBV training. We use certified equipment, regularly test our routes and hold each other accountable. Together with our safety policies and house rules, this ensures a safe climbing environment.

Coming to climb independently? You’ll need a climbing partner, harness, belay device and climbing shoes. The routes and ropes are ready for you. Don’t have something yet? No problem! You can rent everything on site. You’ll find the rental rates on our pricing page.

The Climbing Club is our youth sports club for children who want to climb or boulder. They receive weekly training in technique and independence, and learn to climb in a playful way.

It’s similar to joining a football team or scouts: your child gets weekly lessons from an experienced trainer in a group of peers. Children can join the Climbing Club from the age of 7.

Climbing and bouldering train your entire body. You use almost all your muscles while building strength, balance and flexibility. Just as important: your mind is fully engaged. Every route requires focus and smart decisions, helping build confidence and reduce stress. And because you often climb together, you naturally become part of a strong community.
