WHAT DOES THE ROLE ENTAIL?

As Head of Sports Staff, you are responsible for the organization and planning of all sports activities at Climbing Center Amsterdam. You ensure a safe and welcoming environment where all visitors can enjoy their sport. You are part of the location's core team and provide functional leadership to flexible staff. Additionally, you mentor interns while working primarily on the floor. You will also regularly teach courses, take responsibility for the Climbing Club (youth), show initiative, and supervise activities. You report to the Branch Manager.

You are responsible for the following key result areas:

RESULT AREAS

Staff & Training Company

  • You are responsible for the (sports) training company; you recruit and select trainees, act as a practical supervisor, and train them to the required level while supervising them during activities.
  • You are the point of contact for teachers/schools regarding the trainee(s).
  • You provide daily leadership; coaching, guiding, and motivating flexible staff and trainees so they can perform at their best.

Courses & Activities

  • You ensure optimal planning and offering of courses and activities.
  • You are responsible for the Climbing Club; managing the planning, lesson and activity program and you are the point of contact for parents.
  • You personally provide courses and instructions, including beginner courses, and supervise the Climbing Club.
  • You handle bar/reception shifts; during quiet periods (e.g., summer), the focus lies on these tasks.
  • You support the Branch Manager in organizing local events and competitions.

Quality & Safety

  • You are responsible for safety within the Sports department at the location. You lead by example and ensure your staff follow the correct safety procedures.
  • You are responsible for the management and maintenance of climbing and activity equipment in accordance with procedures (including the TÜV system).
  • You perform general tasks according to cleaning procedures.

Commercial & Relationship Management

  • You translate personal and location goals into concrete actions and results within the Sports department.
  • You promote activities and events, including social media.

WHAT DO WE ASK OF YOU?

We are looking for a customer-oriented and flexible colleague with experience in climbing and leadership. Planning, organizing, and monitoring come naturally to you. You enjoy contributing ideas for commercial actions and new events to increase visitor satisfaction and loyalty.

At a minimum, we ask:

  • MBO+/HBO (Associate/Bachelor) work and thinking level
  • Extensive experience in climbing and mountain sports (active indoor/outdoor climber).
  • In possession of official NKBV qualifications (Practical Supervisor, SKI-IV) and First Aid (BHV), or the willingness to obtain them.
  • Opportunities to grow toward SKI-OV, SKT2.
  • Experience in leadership and planning/organizing, preferably within the sports industry.
  • A social, enthusiastic personality who enjoys making customers feel at home.
  • Willingness to work evenings and one weekend day.

WHERE WILL YOU WORK?

Climbing Center Amsterdam has been located in the ‘Eretribune’ in Amsterdam-West for over 10 years. The center features a lead wall with an impressive overhang where the Dutch national climbing team regularly trains, a bouldering area, an outdoor wall, training and fitness facilities, and partnerships with Fysioholland and Topsport Amsterdam. The center includes a cozy mountain sports café with a terrace by the water.

Climbing Network is a fast-growing and dynamic organization with over 30 years of experience. The organization has 7 climbing and bouldering centers in the Netherlands and an outdoor mountain sports branch.
