WHAT DOES THE ROLE INVOLVE?

The Competition Team Climbing Trainer works in a climbing or bouldering center and collaborates with the permanent core team. The work primarily consists of training the competition team, giving adult training sessions and delivering courses. The Competition Team Climbing Trainer is managed on location by the Center Manager and receives content guidance from the Climbing Club Coordinator.

You are responsible for the following result areas:

Trainer/Coach

  • Delivers training to the competition team
  • Is familiar with the internal multi-year development plan and the ASM model, and uses this background knowledge combined with personal insights to shape training content and periodisation
  • Coaches youth members at (national) competitions and is the point of contact for parents/guardians; is familiar with the IFSC competition regulations and the Dutch supplementary provisions
  • Uses the talent tracking system Sportlyzer to record training sessions, absences, test results, goals, the labelling system, etc.
  • Contributes ideas to the joint training sessions organised annually
  • Ensures compliance with competition team intake and exit procedures, thereby creating healthy progression within the team

Courses & Activities (optional)

  • Delivers courses including Indoor Top Rope and/or Indoor Lead Climbing courses
  • Gives climbing and/or bouldering training sessions to adults (Mountain Fit)

Safety and Quality

  • Responsible for ensuring safety by working according to the applicable safety and quality procedures before and during activities
  • Identifying, reporting and acting on potentially dangerous or undesirable situations
  • Ensuring communication, supervision and compliance checks relating to quality and safety procedures, setting the right example

Customer Focus

  • Ensures optimal customer satisfaction by continuously connecting with the customer, their experience and expectations, and responding accordingly
  • Conveys personal enthusiasm for climbing to customers through a positive and accessible attitude
  • Together with other trainers, creates a safe sports climate for all members and customers at the location

WHAT DO WE ASK OF YOU?

We are looking for a customer-focused and flexible colleague with experience in climbing and in giving training sessions. Planning, organising and monitoring come naturally to you. You enjoy contributing ideas on training content at the location and have your own vision on talent development from recreational to elite level.

Minimum requirements:

  • You love sharing your passion for climbing with children and adults
  • Your climbing level is at least 7a (or you have achieved this in the past)
  • Affinity with climbing and mountain sports (active indoor/outdoor climber)
  • A sharp eye for safety
  • Able to work independently and take responsibility
  • In possession of a VOG or willing to apply for one
  • Preferably in possession of official NKBV leadership qualifications SKI3-IV & SKT3, or willing to obtain these in the short term
  • Willing to work evenings/weekends
  • Ambition to work at Climbing Network for at least 3 years so we can invest in suitable training and make a real development leap together in our current training offering

WHERE WILL YOU WORK?

Climbing Center Leeuwarden is one of the newest and most modern climbing centers in the Netherlands, located in Leeuwarden. It is one of the few centers in the Netherlands offering all three Olympic disciplines under one roof: lead, speed and boulder. There is also an outdoor wall and the first and only Clip ’n Climb in Friesland. The mountain sports café has a cosy open fireplace where you can enjoy food and drinks. The bouldering hall of over 750 m², together with a high-end training room, was added in May 2022. The location has a close-knit and enthusiastic team with a great passion for climbing.
