Auto Belay Climbing Safety Rules

HERE YOU WILL FIND ALL THE SAFETY RULES FOR AUTO BELAY CLIMBING

The basic rules below must always be followed so that you can use the Auto Belay safely. A climbing certificate (KVB) is always required in order to use the Auto Belay.

Don't have a KVB? You can also climb on the Auto Belays if you come with someone who does hold an Indoor Top Rope climbing certificate (maximum 1 per experienced climber).

‍

Safety Rules

  • Independent Auto Belay climbing is only permitted if you hold an Indoor Top Rope climbing certificate (KVB) or have demonstrable climbing experience.
  • Before every climb, perform the self-check:
    • Check that your harness stays on your hips and that the buckles are properly fastened.
    • Attach the carabiner(s) to the belay loop and check that the gate is closed.
    • Check that the auto belay is working by pulling the line down and releasing it.
  • Don't climb too far to the left or right; stay in line with your route.
  • When descending, check that no one is standing beneath you before you let go.
  • Stay out of the landing zone of a climber who is actively using the Auto Belay.

Climbing Network Auto Belay Attachment Method

At Climbing Network we use two methods of attaching to an Auto Belay.

‍

Option 1: Two carabiners

  • First take the carabiner hanging loose on the belay gate and attach it to your belay loop
  • Open the carabiner attached to the belay gate and attach it to your belay loop
  • Check that both carabiners are attached to the correct loop and that the carabiners are closed
  • Perform the self-check

‍

Option 2: TRU-CLIP Connector

  • Take hold of the Tru-Clip with your hand and press the connector button
  • Insert the Key-link attached to your belay loop into the Tru-Clip
  • Pull the Key-link down; the Key-link attached to the mat should now come loose
  • Release the connector button
  • Perform the self-check
