Learn to climb independently with auto belays
With an auto belay you climb without a partner: the device takes in the line as you climb and lowers you gently as soon as you let go. In this short course (60 minutes) you'll learn everything you need to do that safely and on your own: putting on your harness properly, running the self-check, climbing safely and lowering under control. Pass the final assessment and you'll receive the Auto Belay climbing certificate (KVB-AB), which lets you climb the auto belays independently from then on.
Ideal for boulderers who want to get up high too, and for climbers with or without a KVB.

What
In up to 60 minutes you'll learn everything you need to climb safely and independently with auto belays: putting on your harness properly, running the self-check, climbing safely and lowering under control. You'll also learn to spot and avoid the risks. Pass the final assessment and you'll receive the Auto Belay climbing certificate (KVB-AB), which lets you climb the auto belays independently from age 14.
Who it's for
The course is open to anyone aged 14 and over, and no experience is needed. Already bouldering and keen to get up high as well? Take this course and add something new to your training! Already climbing with a KVB and want to use the auto belays too? Or never climbed before? Then this is the shortest route to climbing on your own. Small groups: up to 12 participants per instructor.

Afterwards

Frequently asked questions
- Age 4 and under: auto belay climbing is not permitted.
- Ages 5 to 13: climbing is allowed under the supervision of a parent or guardian who holds a climbing certificate (KVB-IT or KVB-AB).
- Age 14 and over: you may climb independently with your own climbing certificate (KVB-IT or KVB-AB).
Tie long hair back securely and wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes. Don't carry loose items while climbing, such as a phone in your pocket or anything else that could fall. Leave off earrings and other jewellery that could snag or cause injury.
Check your clothing before you climb: loose jackets, jumpers, hoodies and other loose-hanging clothing aren't allowed. Always stay out of other climbers' fall zones and never walk underneath a climber.
If you want to try climbing, you can book an introductory lesson first! If you like it, you can then get your Indoor Toprope Climbing Skill Certificate (KVB-IT) from us. This allows you to climb independently in any climbing gym in the Netherlands. After that, you can get your indoor pre-climb ticket (KVB-IV).
