NCC - November Monthly Update

At the end of November, we reached a special milestone: the construction of the first climbing walls in the beginner area of the National Climbing Center (NCC) started. An important step towards the opening of a center that wants to take Dutch climbing to a new level.
At Mountain Network, we believe in a place where sports, innovation and community come together. That's why we're building the NCC with strong partners. In our new Experience Center, we work closely with La Sportiva and Petzl, FysioHolland B.V. will open a modern physio practice within our location and Kind&co ludens will soon offer childcare for young adventurers.
We spoke to all these partners about their role within the NCC and what visitors can expect in the future.
Jeroen Schmeetz, Petzl Sports
We spoke to Jeroen Schmeetz, responsible for Petzl Sports in the Netherlands. Petzl's mission is “access the inaccessible”: developing safe materials that let people enjoy the vertical world.
The collaboration with Mountain Network fits that mission perfectly, because the new climbing center will be a central place for the Dutch climbing community. Petzl opens their own section in the Experience Center here.
“My climbing heart in me beats faster when I walk around here” - Jeroen Schmeetz

In the Petzl zone, visitors will discover the most extensive Petzl range, complemented by a mini cinema and changing exhibitions about the history of climbing, sustainability and iconic innovations such as the Grigri and the first headlamp. Thanks to the cooperation with Petzl, materials can be tested directly in the climbing gym, a unique opportunity to experience products in real conditions.
Richard Cremers, La Sportiva
Richard Cremers, agent for La Sportiva in the Benelux, says that, as a leading player in mountain and climbing sports, and in particular as the market leader in climbing shoes, La Sportiva focuses on developing high-quality products that allow athletes to achieve their ambitions.
According to him, the choice for the National Climbing Center is obvious: there has been strong cooperation with Mountain Network for years and the new center will be a unique destination in Europe in its own way.

At the Experience Center, La Sportiva can present its range of products wider and deeper than in a regular store. Fewer brands mean more space for technical product knowledge, comprehensive presentation, videos and real brand experience.
This gives visitors a complete picture of what La Sportiva represents. In addition to climbing shoes and clothing, mountaineering and trail running equipment is also available, based on the combination of craftsmanship and innovation that the brand is known for.
Ingrid Zoer, Child & Co Ludens
Kind & Co Ludens is a social organization that offers childcare in the Central Netherlands, including a new location in the NCC. As a non-profit foundation, Kind & Co Ludens focuses on impact.
“We love to sit in all unique places” - Ingrid Zoer, regional manager
Movement and healthy development are at the heart of Kind & Co Ludens' vision. That's why a spot within a top sports center is the perfect fit: children can move around and take advantage of the sporting environment. The new location will offer a wide range of activities. The main focus here is on climbing, but, of course, the beautiful green environment around the NCC is also used.

The unique thing about this collaboration is that, in cooperation with Mountain Network, employees can be trained to become qualified climbing instructors. This strengthens the interaction between the two organizations and the wider network in Nieuwegein, such as ROC Midden-Nederland. The combination of professional training, sporting environment, outdoor activities and partnerships makes it a special concept.
Mieke van Vegten, Fysioholland
FysioHolland consists of more than 100 physiotherapy practices throughout the Netherlands. As a result, they are always close by when moving is not easy. Mieke van Vegten, project leader and quality coordinator at FysioHolland and a practicing physiotherapist, says that the organization stands for energy, cooperation, personal contact and progress.
This cooperation is now being further expanded: FysioHolland is already working with Mountain Network in Amsterdam and is now reconnecting to the new climbing center in Nieuwegein. FysioHolland is a good fit for this location because of the sporting dynamism and the presence of many athletes at different levels. They have often worked in major sports centers, such as Kampong in Utrecht, so this environment feels natural.
They not only want to help with recovery, but also to provide preventive guidance. From climbers who have questions about posture or movement to children who exercise here and can receive support in motor development. The team will be visibly present at the center to help athletes move better and safer.
