Transition from MN Nieuwegein to NCC

Update: December 18, 2025
The coming months are marked by Mountain Network Nieuwegein's move to the new one. National Climbing Center (NCC). Below you can read what this means for you as a climber.
Last climbing day and farewell evening — Saturday, December 20
We can't stay in the current center any longer: the building will be demolished and will make way for an Aldi supermarket and fitness center. Saturday, December 20 is the last day that you can climb at the current Climbing Center Nieuwegein.
- The hall is open for the Mountain Club until 2 p.m.
- From 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., adult climbers can climb one more time.
After 6 p.m., we'll have a bite to eat together, reflect on 30 years of climbing history at this location and end the evening with the End of an Era party. Registration is no longer possible.
Temporary closure - December 21 to January 3
From Sundays December 21 and the opening weekend of January 3/4 it is not possible to climb in Nieuwegein. Climbers with a membership can simply visit our other locations, such as Amsterdam, Arnhem and Dordrecht.
If you are unable or unwilling to climb at other Mountain Network locations in this short period of time, it is possible to temporarily pause your membership at leden@mountain-network.nl
NCC opening — Saturday 3 & Sunday 4 January
On Saturday, January 3 2026, we will open the first facilities at the National Climbing Center, especially for Mountain Club members (until 2 p.m.) and adult members (from 2 p.m.). From Sunday, January 4 the climbing gym is open to all customers.
The first section that we open consists of a 14-metre-high climbing gym with 28 toprope lines. Expect brand new routes and fresh grips!
Please note limited facilities
Because we are opening in phases, the facilities are still limited:
- There is a shop with coffee, tea and soft drinks (no food yet)
- There is a toilet, but no changing rooms or showers yet
- Bags can be left at the climbing gym
- There is no heating yet, dress warmly and bring any hot drinks.
Walking Routes & Safety
You can park at the old climbing gym. From here, follow the signs to the NCC, which is located directly behind the current location (± three minutes' walk).
Registration takes place at the construction site (marked with signs) |
⚠️ Entering the construction site is not allowed, even out of curiosity.
NCC address:
National Climbing Center
Elm farm 41
3438 MR Nieuwegein
Opening hours (first phase)
Monday to Friday: 15:30 - 23:00
Saturday to Sunday: 09:00 - 19:00
As soon as it is structurally possible, we will extend the opening hours. After the full opening, we will also offer morning openings.
Planning for the coming months
While we climb the first routes in January, we will continue to work on the rest of the NCC, including: autobelay square, lead hall, training facilities, bouldering halls, exterior walls, restaurants and shops.
Preliminary planning:
- Mid-January: opening of the intro-boulder (ground floor)
- Early February: opening autobelay square (27 autobelays)
- End of April: full opening of the NCC with all facilities
Rates and schedule update
The entry fees change the new location only at the end April. Until then, the current rates from Mountain Network Nieuwegein applies.
